Huge Turnout For Iraq Elections
Senator Biden is in Iraq today, monitoring the elections. CBS news has an early report on the wire:
Getting a first hand look at history in the making were some US senators, who felt compelled to be in Iraq for Election Day.
Senator Joe Biden says, “It’s clear the Iraqi people want to govern themselves. They want to choose their leaders. They’ve taken great personal risk to make that choice.”
Washington is watching the vote closely hoping Sunni Arabs will win several seats in parliament. That could lure other Sunnis away from the insurgency.
The watching and waiting will continue for a while. There could be some preliminary returns Thursday night, with the final numbers being announced within two weeks.
